[Note: This is a prayer for the release of all unforgiveness, along with a confession of all sin. We will take you through this prayer during your first ministry session, but we ask that you give this prayer a good bit of thought and perhaps make some notes in preparation for that session.]
SAMPLE PRAYER OF RELEASE
Lord, Father of Jesus Christ, I come to you desperate for help, to be free from the curse of physical, mental and emotional oppression. I want to be completely honest and transparent before you because I am asking you, the Lord of heaven and earth, to heal me in mind, body, and soul.
Lord, I thank you that Jesus is my Savior and that as I confess my sin, you have forgiven me my sin, since the penalty for my sin was already paid by Christ’s death on the cross.
- CONFESSION OF UNFORGIVENESS AND SINS AGAINST OTHERS
Here is my confession: I confess, repent of, and renounce all resentment, bitterness, and unforgiveness that I have harbored in my heart, including against friends and family at home, at work, and wherever else, specifically:
[Note: In each of the forgiveness sections below, the most important thing is to release and forgive not only in general terms, but in respect of specific words spoken or actions against you which come to mind when you think about the person. They come to mind because the Enemy has a stronghold there and keeps the memories fresh to keep you in bondage to bitterness. Please be diligent here.]
- Forgiveness of Parents: I sincerely forgive my parents for the rejection I feel and the pain they have caused me, especially because of the following: [list or describe here – language given below is only an example:
I was a victim of their benign neglect. They failed to nurture and encourage me, and I’ve never felt fully loved by them as they never seemed to want to deal in any depth with any life issues, and that hurts. I need their help and support and it seems they prefer everything on a superficial level. ]
Nevertheless, I acknowledge that they are human and are struggling with their own issues. I do love them, Lord, and I choose to affirm that they mean me not harm but good. I refuse to dwell on the past or their present attitude or let it leave me bitter. Therefore, Lord, I now release all resentment against my parents that I have been holding onto. I don’t want it anymore. It imprisons me in bitterness and sadness. I’ve had enough. I will trust you, Lord, to renew and repair our relationship. Thank you, Lord! Make us a blessing to one another! May we open our hearts to each other with confidence!
- Forgiveness of Spouse or Ex-Spouse: I forgive [spouse’s name] for the heartache, hurt, and pain he/she caused me in our relationship, especially for [list or describe here – language given below is only an example:
not loving me as he/she should, for rejecting and abandoning me, for crushing my spirit, and for his controlling ways. I forgive her/him for his unwillingness to see me as I really am, to understand me, and to love me. I forgive her/him for making me out to be his/her enemy—and choosing to be a victim. I forgive her/him for living in victim mentality and acting toward me out of that mentality and blaming me for it.
I understand, Lord, that I am choosing and have chosen to forgive [name] whether he/she asks for it or not, but I know I do not want to hold onto it. Enable me to release anything that remains, Lord. Cut any soul ties by which the Enemy afflicts me, heal me of the hurt and purify my emotions, I pray.
I affirm that I am not defined by what he/she may have said to me or what my parents may or may not have said to me, or how any of them may have behaved towards me at any given moment. Instead, I have decided to believe and rest in my identity as a son/daughter of the Most High God, and to believe God’s Word, which never fails to affirm and encourage me and assure me of my Heavenly Father’s awesome, unfailing, and steadfast love. I have incredible worth, stature, and respect as part of the immediate royal family in the Kingdom of my Father, and He has seated me at His right hand with Jesus. That is what I am and who I am, and I choose from now on to live out from that identity – that TRUTH.
Therefore, I declare myself free of past hurts from my parents, from my spouse or siblings, or from anyone else. I refuse to receive the memory of them, to be defined by them, or to dwell on them, because I know that you, Father, have made all things new in me when you joined me to Jesus – the Creator God.
Repentance of Sin against Spouse or Ex-Spouse or Ex-boyfriend/girlfriend: I also confess, repent of, and renounce the heartache, hurt, or pain I caused [spouse’s name], especially for [list or describe here – language given below is only an example:
I too often sought my own way and in my rebellion veered from the path you directed me to, Lord. I was selfish and refused to listen to him, to love him, or be subject to him as the Lord requires…etc.]
I want that all to be in the past, and the attitude that fostered it to be killed in me and taken from me. Only you can do that, Lord, and only you can also lead me and strengthen me to ask [name] for his forgiveness. Please do so, Lord. Make me a complete blessing to [name] and he to me, in Christ, I pray.
- Forgiveness of Children: Lord, I sincerely forgive my children for any misconduct and rebellion against my authority, and for the times they have hurt and rejected me. I now realize that they are struggling with issues and Enemies that they did not ask for or receive of their own will. I want freedom and wholeness for them, and I want to love them and protect them as you intend for me to do. Remove my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh that longs to follow you and to be the father/mother in Christ you intend for me to be! Bless them, Lord.
- Forgiveness of Others:
- I sincerely forgive [e.g., my relative] for the hurt he/she caused me especially in [describe incident]. I refuse to dwell on him/her or let the pain of that relationship leave me bitter. Please heal my heart and give me your eyes through which to see him/her.
- I sincerely forgive my [e.g., ex-boyfriend] for his [abuse and rejection and his other actions toward me]. I don’t excuse his or my actions, but I also don’t want to let the Enemy use them to imprison me in frustration, cynicism, or bitterness. Forgive and heal me, Lord, as I forgive him, I pray. Cut fully any damaging soul ties. Thank you, Lord.
- Forgiveness of Friends: I sincerely forgive [name of friend] for the hurt he/she caused me, especially by [describe incident]. Again, any hurt or bitterness only does me harm and holds me back. I release him/her, Lord, from any unforgiveness I may harbor against him/her. Bless him/her, I pray.
- Forgiveness of Self: I also confess, renounce and repent of all the times I have cursed or rejected myself. I have substituted self-pity and self-condemnation for Godly repentance. Now, by your grace, today I forgive myself, specifically of [describe incidents], and I repent of the unforgiveness I have harbored in my heart against myself. Since you have removed my sins as far as the east is from the west, I will no longer hold on to them. I confess that my sin is extravagantly covered by the precious blood of the Lord Jesus. You do not condemn me, Lord. Therefore, on the basis of your Word, I will no longer condemn myself and I pronounce myself FREE FOREVER OF SELF-CONDEMNATION!
- Forgiveness of God: I also renounce and repent of all the times I have cursed or rejected you, my God and my Savior. I confess that I have blamed you for problems and blasphemed your great Name. I don’t want to hold on to any unforgiveness against you. You are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness. I release you, Lord, from any unforgiveness. Be blessed by me, Lord, and bless me with revelation of your care and compassion, I pray.
- Repentance of Sin against Others: I also confess, repent of, and renounce all the hurt and pain I have caused others by word and deed, specifically [describe incidents]. Cleanse me, Lord, of all my wrongful actions and words, especially those done or spoken in rebellion or anger against my parents who love me, against my [e.g.,ex-husband], and against my kids. I am sorry for it. Please cancel any curse against me for disobedience towards my parents especially. Mightily bless them all, Lord.
Plea for Release and Wholeness in Relationships:
- Lord, please have your Holy Spirit lead me into all truth. Take the self-condemnation, and the guilt, and the anger, hurt and bitterness from me, I pray. I want a good, healthy, and wholesome relationship with my parents, [ex-]husband/wife, children, and all you have placed in my path.
- Lord, I also don’t want to be made a fool of by the Enemy of God who masquerades his thoughts as my thoughts and leads me to destruction. I have had enough – I no longer want to hold on to the self-condemnation, and the guilt, and the anger, hurt and bitterness. These thoughts and feelings are death and not life. I ask with all my heart that you cleanse me and wash me completely by the blood of Jesus. Make me new and whole in Him!
- Lord, as an act of my own free will, I NOW forever release to you all of these feelings of self-condemnation, guilt, anger, hurt and bitterness. Please enable your favor and blessings to flow to me. Please heal my emotions and fill me with thankfulness. FREE ME, I pray. And make me a blessing to everyone I have mentioned, especially my parents, spouse, and kids! Thank you, Lord!
- CONFESSION OF OTHER PERSONAL SIN
- Lord, I also confess, repent of, and renounce all fear, anxiety, depression, and worry, and I put my trust in you, Lord. I cast all my anxiety upon you, for I confess that you truly are caring for me. Please set me free from all the “junk” that I stress and obsess over, and in your wisdom and mercy destroy my idols that have so enslaved my heart.
- I also confess, repent of, and renounce also the following sins: [e.g., lust, worldliness, materialism, abuse of others, pride, unbelief, back-biting, hate, anger, adultery, sexual immorality, abortion, masturbation, fear of failure or of the future, impatience, judgmentalism, gossip, gluttony, ungodly video games, music, movies, magazines, books, and TV, depression, joylessness, meddling, cursing, envy, jealousy, lying, dishonesty, idolatry and all negative emotions.] Today I ask with all my heart that you cleanse me and wash me completely by the blood of Jesus.
- I confess, repent of, and renounce any form of occultism, including [e.g., Ouija board, séance, New Age, acupuncture, yoga, and sorority vows.]
[Note: there is a separate, quite extensive prayer in respect of paganism (e.g., American Indian), freemasonry, or other occult societies.]
- CONFESSION OF ANCESTRAL SIN
- I repent of and fully renounce the sins of my ancestors, including [e.g., anger, hate, lust, alcohol abuse, unbelief, gossip, meddling, cursing, sexual immorality, pride, dishonesty, lying, and occult activities, including freemasonry.] You know them, Lord. Cleanse me fully, Lord, by the blood of Christ of all condemnation and ancestral curses. Close every demonic doorway through my ancestral line and cut every demonic ancestral soul tie by which the Enemy accesses my life. Free me Lord of all ancestral bondage, I pray.
- CONCLUDING PLEA
- Lord, only you can cleanse me, heal me and bind me up and I ask that you do so now. Forgive me and cleanse me and fill me with your precious Holy Spirit and your Joy, in Jesus’ Name.
- Father, I also believe that on the cross Jesus took upon Himself every curse that could ever come upon me and my family. So I ask you now to release me and my family from every curse over our lives – in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let your favor and goodness flow to us.
- Lord, I trust you and early in my life asked the Lord Jesus to save me from my sins. Father, I affirm my decision to receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior and my Lord, to rescue me from the just penalty of all my sins, to give me new life in Him, to make me your son/daughter forever and ever.
- Father, please hear my prayer, make my repentance sincere, purify my heart, and heal me spiritually, emotionally, and physically by the precious blood of your Son. Thank you, Father. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

I am now addressing the Enemies of God. Hear this!
I plead the blood of the Lord Jesus over, and to cover, all of the sins I have repented of on behalf of myself and my ancestors, especially all occultism, paganism, sexual immorality, grudges, bitterness, and unforgiveness by myself and my ancestors, and
- I cancel in the Name of Jesus all right of the Evil One to afflict me or my family through my ancestors’ sins and through my own sin.
- I cancel in the Name of Jesus any curse uttered or effected against me or my lineage or family, and cut every demonic soul tie resulting from sexual sin
- I declare in the authority of Jesus that I belong to the Lord Jesus and I revoke any right or claim any demonic entity may have to afflict me or my family
Again, in the name of Jesus, I break and cancel any legal right or basis for the Evil One to trouble me or my family, and by the blood of Jesus and the authority of Jesus, I shut these doors forever.
