INTRODUCTION

Consider:

1. The Promises of God are great and precious. (2 Pe. 1:4) All the Promises of God are ‘Yes!’ and ‘Amen!’ in Christ. (2 Cor. 1:20). And we, of course, are in Him (1 Cr. 1:30; 6:17) and therefore co-heirs of all the Promises. (Rom. 8:17; Gal. 3:16, 26-29.) All the Promises to the Righteous are to us who are in Him, because He is our righteousness. (1 Cr. 1:30) And they are all inherited, every one, through faith and patience! (Heb. 6:12)

2. Satan is our enemy and is behind many of the afflictions we suffer, even though they often have a human face, like the Giants stationed to prevent the Israelites from entering into the Promised Land. Read these Promises of deliverance and protection with the World (1 Jhn. 5:5), Satan (I Jhn 5:19), and sickness in mind and body as our Enemies, so they will make sense to you. The Psalms below were written mainly by David who was being constantly faced with impending earthly perils; therefore, many of the promises only made sense to David to the extent they referred to imminent rescue from his many troubles and afflictions.

3. The constant message is that all are blessed who take refuge in the Lord. Why? Because He can be trusted to do exactly as He says when we look to Him with patience and perseverance, believing Him to be faithful and honest. (Heb. 11:6) George Mueller has said: “I would carefully, quietly, deliberately examine and see whether what I was trusting for was something in accordance with His promises in his written word. Then if I found it was, the amount of difficulties would be no hindrance to my trust.”
